Death is not the biggest fear we have; our biggest fear is taking the risk to be
alive -- the risk to be alive and express what we really
are. ~ Don Miguel Ruiz
The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear. ~
H.P. Lovecraft
"Fear". A word that
can freezes us in our tracks and stops us from moving forward in life, stop us
from expressing ourselves as more.
How often are we run by irrational fears
that have no basis in reality? How often are our lives contained by the
walls that these fears create for us? We live restricted within the boundaries
dictated by these fears. We are not empowered, we are diminished. Many of our
fears are deeply buried and unconscious and they too are shaping the containers
in which we feel "safe" creating our lives. Where there is a sense of a safe
choice, a comfortable road we feel secure with - there is always a fear
operating.
Fear. We've all
heard it before. False Evidence Appearing Real.
The only
thing we have to fear is fear itself... ~ Franklin D.
Roosevelt
When we blast through a limiting fear,
taking a step into the unknown in courage, we are incredibly empowered. We are
incredibly alive. We are More.
When we step bravely into the
unknown courageously facing fear what we discover on the other side is a
miracle.
Recently I read a powerful essay by
Laurence Platt entitled "Victory over
The Past" demonstrating the control that irrational fear can have over
us. I want to share it with you. Laurence shares the miracle of how letting go
of an irrational fear creates being free.
Out of the blue, Laurence began to
experience a life threatening allergic reaction to seafood, his favorite food.
Terrified, he lived in fear for his life and toted around pills and an
epinephrine pen to inject a life saving dose of adrenalin in case he experienced
a reaction. In this brief essay Laurence shares how his suffering under the
weight of heavy fear of something real - a life threatening allergy became
suffering under the weight of heavy fear of something irrational, a fear with no
basis in reality. It wasn't until he finally let go of his attachment to the
fear was he finally free and experienced "cured".
The following is an excerpt from
"Victory Over The Past":
Indeed, the impossible had
happened. The incurable was cured. And yet ... even though it's gone,
since then I've lived in fear it would come back! That's the truth. It's
weird - I know. Even though it's gone, I've never eaten seafood since then. I'm
even careful - as I was then - to ensure seafood doesn't contaminate my plates.
I've gone off seafood entirely, and I'll probably never go back. I'm clear my
body's no longer allergic, that there's no longer any danger of any given meal
becoming fatal. And yet ... the irrationality of it is in spite
of that, I've been run by the fear it would return.
"Victory Over
The Past" is part of the an amazingly powerful collection, the "Conversations For
Transformation" internet series of essays.
When we step bravely into the
unknown courageously facing fear what we discover on the other side is a
miracle.
"Miracle". It
expands and empowers us, filling us up with appreciative awe and gratitude. It
validates WHO we truly are.
A miracle is something that validates who you are rather than diminishes who you
are. ~ Werner Erhard
I invite you to look and see what irrational fears you are attached
to. Notice what the payoff is in hanging on to these fears and choose, in
courage, to let go.
Let go right into your miracle. It's right here waiting on the other side of fear.
